158 Years Ago TODAY - Monday, December 15, 1856

THE END OF THE 1856 IMMIGRATION

The Hunt and the Hodgetts Wagon Companies - the last of the 1856 immigrants - finally arrived into the Salt Lake Valley 158 years ago today.

They, too, had experienced hardship, suffering, and tragedies within their companies even though they were in wagons.

The Goble Family had to bury their little daughter Edith along the way.
However, miraculously over the years, the old piece of wood that marked her grave found its way back to their family, the Pay Sisters - JoAnn Pay Baird and Doreen Pay Lloyd, who are also sisters of the late Marjorie Pay Hinckley, wife of President Gordon B. Hinckley.
They brought it to show us when they visited last summer.
